Keeping eyes bright

Have you ever experience gloomy, blur and fatigue eyes? I do!! Yeah, so I found out about this one article about KEEPING EYES BRIGHT. I find it pretty useful and I would like to share it with you guys...

A spoonful of energy

>> The next time your eyes need a pep-up, take two metal teaspoons from the kitchen drawer and hold them under very cold running water for a few minutes. Then lie down and place the bowls of the spoons over your eyelids for 30-60 seconds. The sharp cold of the metal will revive tired eyes and may boost your energy level at the same time.

Lighten dark circles

>> For many people, tiredness cause dark circles under the eyes (for which I call as panda eyes) that can add years to the appearance of men and women alike. If you can't catch up on your rest, place slices of ripe avocado under each eye or apply a paste of ground almonds and milk to help to lighten the dark shadows on this delicate skin.

Cool as cucumber

>> When your eyes are all red and puffy >> cut a couple of slices of cold cucumber, lie down and put a slice over each eye for 30 minutes. When you get up, your eyes will be brighter and your body refreshed.

>> tea cold also help in reducing eye puffiness. Soak two tea bags in warm water and then chill the bags for a few minutes in the fridge. Place the to your eyes and leave it for 10 minutes. When you remove the bags, your eyes should be completely refreshed.

Lack of sleep linked to early death

Wed May 5, 9:44 am ET

LONDON (AFP) – People who get less than six hours sleep per night have an increased risk of dying prematurely, researchers said on Wednesday.

Those who slumbered for less than that amount of time were 12 percent more likely to die early, though researchers also found a link between sleeping more than nine hours and premature death.
"If you sleep little, you can develop diabetes, obesity, hypertension and high cholesterol," Francesco Cappuccio, who led research on the subject at Britain's University of Warwick, told AFP.

The study, conducted with the Federico II University in Naples, Italy, aggregated decade-long studies from around the world involving more than 1.3 million people and found "unequivocal evidence of the direct link" between lack of sleep and premature death.

"We think that the relation between little sleep and illness is due to a series of hormonal and metabolical mechanisms," Cappuccio said.

The findings of the study were published in the Sleep journal.
Cappuccio believes the duration of sleep is a public health issue and should be considered as a behavioural risk factor by doctors.

"Society pushes us to sleep less and less," Cappuccio said, adding that about 20 percent of the population in the United States and Britain sleeps less than five hours.

Sleeping less than six hours is "more common amongst full-time workers, suggesting that it may be due to societal pressures for longer working hours and more shift work"

The study also found a link between sleeping more than nine hours per night and premature death, but Cappuccio said oversleeping is more likely to be an effect of illness, rather than a cause.
"Doctors never ask how much one sleeps, but that could be an indicator that something is wrong," said Cappuccio, who heads the Sleep, Health and Society Programme at the University of Warwick.
Research showed no adverse effects for those sleeping between six and eight hours per day.

Depression harms cancer survival rates: study

An Indian child with cancer plays with his headgear during an event at the Tata memorial cancer hospital in Mumbai earlier this year. People with cancer who are depressed are more likely to die than are patients with good mental health, psychologists have found in a report in the science journal, Cancer.

GROWING MEDICINAL PLANTS

Several of the plants recommended are both pretty to look at and easy tp grow ( even for non-gardeners ). Some have the advantage of being delicious in cooking or in salads. But best of all, if you've grown them yourself, you can guarantee their freshness and purity.

ALOE VERA

Buy a couple of small plants from a plant nursery and keep them indoors on a sunny windowsill if you live in a cold area, otherwise plant them in well-drained soil where they will get plenty of sunlight. Propagate by breaking of small rooted plantlets.
How to use
Cut one of the fleshy leaves and squeeze the gel onto minor cuts or burns. The gel dries and forms an invisible bandage keeping bacteria out and moisture in.

CAMOMILE

German camomile, the most popular form, is an annual. Sow the seeds where they are to flower when all danger of frost has passed. Scatter the seeds, tamp down and keep damp. Camomile likes a well-drained, partially shaded spot.
How to use

Pick the flowers in full bloom and spread them on a muslin cloth on a rack in a warm dry place, or hang them upside down over a paper bag to catch the falling petals. Camomile tea calms stomach upsets and eases anxiety.
